An invention for smart charging of batteries...
Electric Vehicle usage has risen these days for their economic ease of transportation with chargeable battery system. However, the continuous use of batteries due to the unawareness on its maintenance or replacement and the power fluctuations during battery charging might lead to fatal accidents. Hence, to prevent such mishappenings, an invention from Atal Bihari Vajpayee-Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management Gwalior (ABV-IIITM Gwalior) deals with a smart battery charging system that safely monitors, alarms and ejects battery automatically. As per the invention, the battery is locked to a charging dock with multi-layered door made of fire-resistant net and a door panel. While charging, a processor and a controller set-up work in conjunction to monitor the changes in parameters like, battery age, voltage or current fluctuations, charging cycles and triggers an alarm on anomaly detection or charging failures. The added advantage of the invention is that the battery, either after complete charging or when subjected to hazardous failures, is automatically ejected out of the charging dock and held safely in the fire-proof net to prevent any fire accidents. In fact, the fire-proof net can resist high temperatures of up to 1200℃, ensuring enhanced safety of charging or disposal of fire-prone batteries. However, the rapidly-progressing electric vehicle technology is sure to demand high power optimizations with increased safety of charging, seeking further advancements in battery management systems too.
